Mind the (inclusivity) gap

The Inclusive Teaching Enhancements Project and the Disability Advisory Service have recently carried out work aimed at understanding the wider picture around student inclusion and reported disability at Oxford.

The approach recognises that identifying student needs is not always straightforward and that some students may ‘suffer in silence’ and not report challenges they might be facing. An accessible and inclusive approach embraces all students and staff, whatever their circumstances.

Inclusive student personas have been created as an additional resource to prompt thinking when developing


accessible and inclusive course materials. The personas are based on specific disability scenarios, with suggested guidance on the best ways to cater for the needs of students with those disabilities.  

The Centre for Teaching and Learning runs webinars and workshops, many of which include real life examples by Oxford staff, to help make course content accessible and inclusive by design.
