Migration Project
Supporting content migration to Oxford Fresco, OxIntranet and Oxweb
Moving our content to the new platforms will be a large undertaking, and the Migration Project will ensure this critical activity receives the level of attention needed.
Content currently hosted on Mosaic and Oxweb will be prioritised for migration to the new platforms. This is because these platforms are built on technology that is going out of security support in October 2026. The Migration Project is working hand-in-hand with the Web CMS, Intranet and Oxweb development teams to ensure migration takes place in a smooth and timely way.
Latest developments detailed in this page:
A migration toolkit:
-
The toolkit website recently went live on Fresco, providing guidance, training, and support to help content editors from start to finish with the move from Mosaic to Fresco. We encourage you to have a look at the comparison guide of functionality between Mosaic and Fresco, and learn how you can best prepare your sites for migration down the line.
The migration timeline
-
This includes confirmation of the overall timelines for each migration path and details of allocating each site to a migration slot. More information on this is provided in the Migration Timelines section below.
A resource model
-
This plan will clarify who has responsibility for different aspects of migration, including who is supporting each migration path, what support is offered, and how to access that support.
Migration processes
-
This explain how each migration will be undertaken including what might be automated and where manual effort will be required. More information on this is provided in the Migration Processes section below.
Further information about the Migration Project will be share on this page and directly with content owners and editors.

Migration Timeline
Migration of content from the Oxford Mosaic platform and Oxweb started in the summer of 2025, and will run until October 2026, when Mosaic will be decommissioned.
Migration will take place in tranches, and the timing of each migration will be dependent on:
-
The readiness of each destination platform. For instance, Fresco’s functionality is expanding iteratively, so simpler sites are more likely to migrate at an early stage, with more complex sites migrating later as functionality develops
-
Content owner/editor availability and capacity to undertake the move of their content within the migration window.
A large number Mosaic Site Owners and Migration contacts have recently been contacted with details of the migration month allocation for moving to Fresco (with the exception of MPLS, Biochemistry and UAS contacts, who can expect this communication soon). If you are a Site Owner expecting to need your site beyond October 2026 and haven't received a migration email, please contact us at mosaicmigrationsupport@it.ox.ac.uk.
Migration processes
The migration process, roles and responsibilities, and the degree of automation depends on the migration path. The details of each process are being defined, but as general guidance:
Mosaic to Fresco
Site content will be auto-migrated by the migration team using an automation tool, which copies text, images and attachments into Fresco. This rebuilds the site to look broadly similar to its Mosaic version, though it is not exactly like-for-like. Layouts may differ slightly and some features will have Fresco equivalents.
Once content is migrated, owners will need to review and refine the site before publication. As a guide, a 30-page site typically takes about a day to check and adjust. You will also need to set up users and assign permissions.
Watch our latest walkthrough video of Fresco and the migration process.
Support and main contact:
The Migration Project will be the main point of contact for this migration path and will provide a Toolkit and help-desk style support.
Mosaic to Oxweb
Site content will be migrated manually.
Details on the process, including the respective roles and responsibilities of the Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) and content owners, will be shared by PAD in due course.
Support and main contact:
The Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) will be the main point of contact for this migration path for those outside the UAS.
Mosaic to OxIntranet
The migration process is likely to be manual, although the possibility of some auto-migration is currently being investigated.
Details on the migration process will be shared by the new OxIntranet support team.
Support and main contact
The OxIntranet support team will be the main point of contact for this migration path for those outside the UAS.
UAS migration
In the University Administrative Services (UAS), there is a dedicated project to oversee and support the migration to OxIntranet, OxWeb and Fresco. For more information, visit the UAS Migration page, and if you have any questions, you should speak to your current site owner or UAS Communications Lead in the first instance.
Sites not being migrated
The team have a list of sites which site owners have said do not need to be migrated. Unless you request otherwise, these websites will remain live until the Mosaic platform is decommissioned in October 2026. If you would like your website to be deactivated before then, please complete this form.
If you’re in any doubt about who to contact for any of the migration paths above, please do not hesitate to contact the Programme mailbox and we’ll point you in the right direction.
What you can be doing now
There's no immediate action needed - the team will be in touch to to confirm your migration dates.
In the meantime, you can start preparing your sites for a future move to Fresco using our Pre-Migration Checklist. While it is primarily designed for migration from Mosaic to Fresco, it also includes useful guidance on general best practices and web sustainability, such as deleting draft/outdated pages, and converting file types.
